L'Chaim III: Metal- und Punkmatinee

Panel discussion "Antisemitism in Punk and Metal before and after October 7th" (English):

Julian Michael has been active in the emo, hardcore and punk scene for many years and fights back against increasing anti-Semitism. As a member of Morra, I Feel Violent, Gitti Bach and Slowsports and a theater and religious studies scholar, he speaks anecdotally from his own experience, which he underpins theoretically. He shares the podium with Dr. Keith Kahn-Harris, a Jewish sociologist specializing in metal from London. Dr. Kahn-Harris works at Leo Baeck College and the Institute for Jewish Policy Research. His publications include "Everyday Jews: Why The Jewish People Are Not Who You Think They Are" (2025, Icon Books), "Strange Hate: Antisemitism, Racism and the Limits of Diversity" (2019, Repeater Books) and "Extreme Metal: Music and Culture on the Edge" (2006, Bloomsbury). In relation to the topics of the discussion and the commemoration of the November pogroms, El Libro will also be represented with a book table.

Concert:

MISVORMD (metal/HC), no body found (metal), Slow Burn (hardcore), Valy and the Vodkas (German punk): MISVORMD stands for uncompromising beatdown banging from East Germany. Founded in 2024, the four-piece band from Leipzig combines heavy hardcore and groovy slam death metal to create a powerful and primitive sound that leaves no stone unturned. Djentstep? Argent Metal? Trancecore? NO BODY FOUND actually wanted to become techno DJs, but were forced by their parents to play drums and 8-string guitar. Now the instrumental quartet serves up a schizophrenic mix of metallic dance music with dark soundscapes and playful Morse code breakdowns. Fun is a steel bath. Decadent, hedonistic, terrifying: that's VALY AND THE VODKAS, the disaster squad from Dresden and Leipzig. Chill the beer, rinse out the shot glasses and get the first-aid kit ready. It's going to be loud, it's going to be jagged, it's not for the faint-hearted. More bands: tba. The event is sponsored by the Amadeu Antonio Foundation.

L'Chaim is a series of events organized by Artists Against Antisemitism Leipzig and Conne Island. It serves networking and criticism of anti-Semitism, offers a platform and a safe space for Jewish artists of all disciplines and makes Jewish art, culture and perspectives accessible to the interested public.
