Lesung Extremwetterlagen

In the organizer's words:

"Extreme weather conditions - reports from a new Germany"

Manja Präkels, Tina Pruschmann and Barbara Thériault were on the road as "Überlandschreiberinnen" to explore the mood in East Germany and reveal hidden social fractures and tipping points. Their experiences were brought together in the book "Extremwetterlagen".

"When did we realize that we were living in a new country? And how? And how do we learn to breathe against the wind that brews ominously and presses into our lungs with sharp gusts?"

Since 2024, literary reportages have been written about the normalization of right-wing extremist structures and narratives, threatened cultural associations and memorials, bizarre infrastructure projects in ruined landscapes. About people who look away and remain silent, and those who do their best every day to keep breathing against the wind in the raging storm of the revaluation of all values.

The event invites us to sharpen our focus on the political upheavals in Germany, both large and small, and to look, listen and talk together in the light of the upcoming state elections.

All events will be moderated by Momo Charlotte Kranenberg, freelance taz journalist and Heinrich Böll Foundation scholarship holder.

Participation is free of charge. Please register for the reading in Hanover.

The series is a project of Stiftung Leben & Umwelt / Heinrich Böll Foundation Lower Saxony in cooperation with Verbrecherverlag, ZeitZentrum Zivilcourage and Autor*innenzentrum Hannover, vhs Celle and kulturelle Landpartie 2026.
