Lichterglanz

In the organizer's words:

Four more days and then it's time for Christmas! But what would the festive season be without music? The Gürzenich Orchestra lights the fourth candle on the Advent wreath, fills the Philharmonie with a golden glow and cranks up the anticipation. It could hardly get more festive than Johann Sebastian Bach's 1st Orchestral Suite. And when François Leleux, one of the most famous wind soloists of our time, lets the sparks fly in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's bravura oboe concerto and even ventures a little excursion onto the opera stage, you can only marvel.

Franz Schubert left his 7th Symphony unfinished, only two movements were completed - and are among the most beautiful musical gifts ever given to mankind. Mysteriousness, melancholy and jubilant joy lie close together here. The symphony was not premiered until 37 years after Schubert's death. The famous music critic Eduard Hanslick was present at the time and hit the nail on the head with his description: "[...] a sweet stream of melody, so crystalline in all its power and genius that you can see every little stone on the floor. And everywhere the same warmth, the same golden, leafy sunshine!"
