In the organizer's words:

On the occasion of ME/CFS Awareness Day on May 12, 2026, lying-down demonstrations and accompanying activities will take place in around 30 cities nationwide from May 9 to 12, 2026.

Under the motto:

"LieDemo 2026
Time is running out - our lives are slipping away! ⏳
Care, education, binding, effective research - now!"

we are drawing attention to the dramatic situation of people with ME/CFS.

As part of the Awareness Days in Frankfurt on May 10, there will also be a lying-in demonstration with a funeral procession, speeches and an information stand. We want to make it clear that people with ME/CFS continue to live without adequate care, effective treatments and sufficient support.

ME/CFS is a serious, often life-changing disease. According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, over 620,000 diagnoses were recorded in 2023 alone, including many children and adolescents. Despite this, there is still a lack of approved medication, specialized care structures and needs-based nursing and social support.

The consequences are serious:

• People with serious illnesses are often left to fend for themselves.
• Families are permanently stretched to their limits.
• Many of those affected are no longer able to leave their homes.

The #LiegendDemo is a special form of protest.

Participants lie down on the floor on behalf of those who can no longer leave their bed. In this way, the invisibility of the severely and most severely affected is brought into the public space.
