"Liminal" refers to a state of being in-between or transition, in which one is neither completely in the old nor in the new. This exhibition brings together the artists Rosa M Hessling and Eva Jeske, whose works lead the viewer into an open and changeable space of experience.
Rosa M Hessling describes herself as a "gardener of light". Using iridescent pigments, she creates works whose colors change depending on the viewing angle. Light refraction and interference effects create the impression of a pictorial space glowing from the depths. In an intensive creative process, Hessling develops light-forming object paintings that radiate without technical aids and communicate with the viewer. Born in Zell an der Mosel in 1954, she studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. She lived in Cologne for over 30 years before moving back to the Moselle.
Eva Jeske, born in 1990 in Freudenberg, creates minimalist, abstract works that deal with perception, material and the tension between control and chance. Her drawings and paintings on paper are mostly created with ink, acrylic and pencil. Intuitively and experimentally, she explores knowledge, structure and the limits of perception. After studying philosophy at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, where she graduated with a Master of Arts in 2015, she now lives and works as a freelance artist in Cologne.
