IRAN - HIDDEN BEAUTY
Two friends discover Iran. One knows the country from childhood, the other only from the news. A colorful fairy tale from 1001 nights or a dark rogue state? Open-minded high culture or introverted religious fundamentalism? So what is Iran really like?
On their joint travels through Iran, the German-Iranian Mehran Khadem-Awal helped his photographer colleague Thorge Berger to see more than the obvious. In their multi-layered reportage, the friends portray an enchanting country and tell stories of people who appreciate and love the history and culture of their homeland despite all the adversities.
Two friends discover Iran. One knows the country from childhood, the other only from the news: Colorful fairy tale from 1001 nights or gloomy rogue state? Cosmopolitan high culture or introverted religious fundamentalism? Heart-warming hospitality or axis of evil? So what is Iran really like?
In search of answers, Thorge Berger and Mehran Khadem-Awal travel 4,000 kilometers through the country. They experience urban metropolises, dreamy mountain villages, the hottest desert in the world, the deep blue sea and white beaches on the Persian Gulf. In countless encounters, they get to know Iranians and their wishes, worries and hopes. They show a misunderstood country and tell stories of sincere hospitality and warm-hearted people who love their homeland despite all adversity. In the process, they discover the opportunities that lie in open encounters between cultures - and thus also gain a deeper understanding of each other as friends.
