Benjamin Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem opens the concert with a haunting sound and dark intensity. The work, characterized by Britten's pacifist attitude, presents itself as a poignant musical memorial, which the London Symphony Orchestra performs with impressive expressiveness under Pappano's precise direction.

In Bernstein's 2nd Symphony "The age of anxiety", inspired by W. H. Auden's poem of the same name, Denis Kozhukin takes on the demanding role of solo piano. She lends the work, which alternates between jazzy rhythms, introspective passages and powerful orchestral climaxes, a stirring intensity and tonal depth.

Tchaikovsky's "Pathétique", a symphony full of deep emotions ranging from stirring drama to poignant melancholy, forms the finale.
