Growth, change and decay: Gardens are - unfortunately - one of man's short-lived creations. All their components, not only the plants but also their other design elements such as paths, sculptures and water features, have one thing in common: if they are not permanently maintained, the green paradises quickly revert to the state they were in before man devoted himself to their design.

Little more than legendary rumors of some gardens have survived, while other lost gardens are still known to us through pictures or contemporary travel reports. The lecture sets out on a search for traces of forgotten garden art.
