Mahmoud Dabdoub und Raisan Hameed: »Gastfreundschaft als Fragment der Erinnerung«

In the organizer's words:

The photographers Mahmoud Dabdoub and Raisan Hameed, both former students of the HGB, share a common space of experience. In their photographs, flight, migration and movement emerge as recurring themes. Their works make it clear that the political status lost through flight and migration - as Hannah Arendt describes it in her essay "We Refugees" - also opens up a new one: the right to self-portrayal of one's own memories and thus to one's own visual politics.

The artist talk "Hospitality as a fragment of memory" takes up this perspective and understands hospitality not only as a physical place that opens up to others. Hospitality is also thematized as a place of escape that manifests itself in individuals, collectives and actions. Such places open up spaces in which it is possible to recognize the other and create experiential spaces for collective understanding.

The talk is part of the project for diversity development at the HGB.
