Marcus Schinkel Trio feat. Ernie Watts

Crossover music thrives on crossing boundaries - embodied by the legendary saxophonist Ernie Watts, two-time Grammy award winner and musical border crosser between jazz, funk, rock and soul. His collaboration with greats such as Miles Davis, Frank Zappa, Aretha Franklin and the Rolling Stones makes him the ideal partner for crossover pianist Marcus Schinkel.

Since their first encounter together in 2016 at the Bonn Jazz Festival - celebrated as a highlight by the press and audience - Watts and the Schinkel Trio have combined jazz, classical music and rock to create an independent, contemporary sound. Schinkel's lyrical piano playing meets expressive synthesizer sounds and creates a rare connection between concert grand piano and electronic soundscapes.

The trio with Wim de Vries (drums) and Fritz Roppel (bass) spans a wide musical arc from poetic lines to powerful, improvised outbursts - in keeping with the motto: tradition means passing on the fire.
