Mindfulness in the here and now, mental clarity and inner peace can be practiced and exercised in meditative dancing just as much as in other forms of movement such as yoga, tai chi and qigong.

Whether a similar state or experience can be achieved through dancing as through sitting still in meditation depends very much on the individual, their previous experience and their mental state. For many, it is a challenge to sit still and concentrate on the breath. The rhythmic movement helps to counteract the carousel of thoughts. The recurring and distracting thoughts are bound into a form by concentrating on the movement and expressed in it. It is also possible to achieve meditation goals in this way - to be more centered, calmer, more grounded.

Find out whether dance and movement meditation holds meaning and benefit for you. Both in the fixed dance forms/dances and in free dancing , it is not about performance, perfection, presentation, but always about inner experiences, joy and harmony.

There is no "right" or "wrong". Everyone can dance along in a relaxed manner.

Susanne Cistecky founded the TANZRAUM NEUSS in its current form in 1998 and taught dance and movement to all age groups there for many years. Since 2014, she has been practicing meditation as an exercise to collect, calm and concentrate mind and body and has completed training as a meditation instructor.
With "meditative dance", she combines dance movement with mindful practice and consciously brings both areas of experience together.
