In the organizer's words:

On the festive days

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy is one of the most important and versatile musicians of the 19th century. As a composer, pianist and conductor, he changed the world of music. His life took him all over Europe. For twelve years, from 1835, Leipzig was the center of his life. Here, as Gewandhauskapellmeister, he shaped Leipzig's reputation as a cosmopolitan city of music. On November 4, 1847, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy died at the age of 38 in what is now the Mendelssohn House.

Every year on the anniversary of his death, the Gewandhaus and Mendelssohn House invite you to the Mendelssohn Festival Leipzig, curated by Elena Bashkirova, President of the Mendelssohn Foundation. The concerts in the composer's home and death house are among the unique authentic experiences of which Leipzig's musical landscape has plenty to offer.
