Mojo Kölsch | SOMMER KÖLN

In the organizer's words:

Mojo Kölsch
Rhenish folk, poetry slam, Cologne pop and evergreens presented by Dan O'Clock

Mojo Kölsch is the name of the program that brings together new formations and young Cologne musicians on stage: Fimm, Julius Esser, Halvlang and Silke Essert & Josef Piek.

Mojo stands for happiness, good energy and nonchalance. And that suits Cologne very well, where everything is sung about, especially everyday life. Hans Knipp, legendary songwriter of the Bläck Fööss, wrote about everyday situations, the band LSE about likeable, non-conformist Cologne, and the current well-known bands turn Barbarossaplatz into party songs and love songs.

Priska Höflich from the Akademie för uns kölsche Sproch/SK Stiftung Kultur and Dan O'Clock have put together the program, which brings together young, established and brilliant Cologne artists.

PROGRAMME

  • 6 pm: Fimm - Cologne mojo poured into music
Behind Fimm are two Cologne musicians following in the footsteps of well-known singer-songwriters: Dan O'Clock and Joel Ney. Their joint appearances are few and far between. Fimm celebrates Cologne as a place that inspires body and soul. Their culinary anthems not only make the kebab the main character of Cologne. Himmel un Ääd also gets its own love story.
  • 18:30: Julius Esser - poet, author and slam poet from the Rhineland
At just 34 years old, this literature and cultural studies graduate has almost 25 years of stage experience - from theater and music to gripping stage performances. As a Trize-NRW champion, multiple finalist in the state poetry slam championships and a permanent fixture on the North Rhine-Westphalian scene, he is currently one of the best slam poets in the state. The fact that he also speaks Eifeler Platt or Euskirchen slang makes him particularly interesting for us.

  • 7 pm: Silke Essert & Josef Piek - Kölsche Tön - halv un halv
She is a puppeteer at the Hänneschen Theater and was the front woman of the legendary Lamentas - there as here with a lot of voice, wit and Cologne soul. He is a musician, songwriter, guitarist and singer who has been on stage with all of Cologne's greats: from Köbes Underground and Tommy Engel to the NDW giants "Neue Heimat". The duo was brought together by the Akademie för uns kölsche Sproch. Together they have developed a very special stage project: The focus is on "Skully", a singing skeleton brought to life by Silke Essert from the Hänneschen Theater workshop. Skully tells and sings songs from his very own world - directly from heaven, from the Vienna Central Cemetery or the Parisian underworld. With a wink, of course, and in the best Kölsch. A loving, quirky homage to the Cologne identity - humorous, musical and with heart.
At the end, the duo invites you to sing along: classics from the Bläck Fööss, LSE and other Cologne evergreens round off the program.
  • 7:45 pm: HALVLANG
Halvlang have been playing "Rheinisch-Folk" since 2020 - an explosive mix of Irish folk, punk and energy. The five musicians tell stories in Kölsch with a wink, relevance and a clear (political) edge. Whether in bars, pubs, clubs, on the street, at festivals or demos - HALVLANG stand for direct, approachable music that moves people. Gero, Simon, Florens, Maximilian and Flo love interaction and go full throttle at every concert. Dancing is expressly encouraged
  • 20:30: STADTRAND
The six guys around Roman, Tim, Tommy, Christoph, Peter and Marco provide many reasons to be happy with their current songs. StadtRand make music to spread joie de vivre. Stadtrand have been one of the most promising newcomers to the Cologne music scene in recent years since 2019.
StadtRand make music to spread joie de vivre, to leave behind the inhibitions and fears of everyday life. At Mojo Kölsch, they provide a brilliant finale.
