The title says it all: with Music Music, US choreographer Trajal Harrell stages music as a central element of his artistic practice. For Harrell, music is not just an accompaniment or stimulus for movement, but archived memory and history. This specific relationship to music also shapes his choreographic style, which lies not only in his particular view of seemingly distant dance languages, but also in the subtle humor that permeates his works. For his equally intimate and intense solo, Harrell now draws on a broad spectrum of musical works that have remained in his memory from his many years of choreographic and dance work.

In Music Music, Harrell recalls musical memories and confronts them with the presence of the concrete performance situation. Reunion, re-listening, re-sensing - the transformations of body, heart and thoughts are at the center of Harrell's solo. What remains? And what emerges after time has passed? Harrell unfolds a dialog with the lived history of the choreographed body that goes far beyond individual experience.
