Neue alte Lieder – Ensemble Geteiltes Lied und Zentralwerkchor

In the organizer's words:

Concert - Small hall:

The Geteiltes Lied ensemble sings new old songs. The melodies and texts of German folk songs are old, the idea of polyphony is old, the way of singing is also old, what is new is how all this comes together and comes to life. The traditional melodies have been expanded into three-part movements. The style is inspired by vocal music from the 15th century. The vocal technique is mainly learned from polyphonic folk traditions such as Georgian and Ukrainian. This gives rise to sound bodies of great radiance and versatile inner movement. So the lonely lyrical melodies have company!

The lyrics are dreams, are experiences, are stories of life, death, longing, fear, of exuberance, of transitions, of searching, of existential uncertainty, of cohesion and exclusion. Singing as a shared narrative of life on the edge and of the power of connecting voices.

The nine-strong ensemble is joined by the Zentralwerk Choir for parts of the concert. Their older siblings and role models appear alongside the German-language songs: Polyphony from Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Italy...
