The exhibition Free Body Culture presents works by Vojtěch Horálek.
He imbues symbols with a playful freedom reminiscent of postmodernism, but without lapsing into a lack of commitment. At the core are profound and serious themes, above all the relationship between nature and culture and a tension that runs through almost every work: the longing to merge with nature and at the same time the awareness of its impossibility.

The body is central to the artist: it is the place where nature and culture meet, cultivate and are bound at the same time. The title Frei Körper Kultur refers to a space in which body and culture combine - to the ideal of calocagathy as well as to its ironic reversal. At the same time, it recalls with a slight irony the German naturist movement "Freikörperkultur", which combined the freedom of the body with the idea of a return to naturalness. Horálek neither celebrates nor rejects this ideal; rather, he examines, questions and expands it with ambivalent dimensions of fascination and control, freedom and discipline.

In addition to the thematic level, the formal side of the work also shows a distinctive signature. Horálek is characterized by technical sophistication and inventiveness. His relief-like, "upholstered" paintings oscillate between image and object, between illusion and reality. He plays with perspective, format and plasticity, integrates object fragments, creates illusionistic gimmicks and small bizarreities. Traditional representation schemes are relativized and questioned anew; he is interested in the construction of the image as a stage as well as a certain technical inventiveness.

He also conceives the exhibition itself in a multidimensional space of meaning. He reacts to the special features of the space, to the history and the patina of the former Zentralwerk factory. It is precisely here, in a space that bears traces of past functions and layers of time, that Horálek's themes - body and culture, ritual and work, collective memory and personal myth - unfold with new intensity. Free Body Culture thus becomes not only the title of an exhibition, but also a situation: a place of encounter and interaction between image, space and viewer.
