In the organizer's words:

NEW AESTHETIC is a satellite of the KFFK/Short Film Festival Cologne program. The section deals with the connections between short film, media art and gaming. In collaboration with the Kollektiv ohne Zukunft, a space is created in which different forms of storytelling, interaction and debate come together.

In NEW AESTHETIC, we trace the changes that the digital is bringing about in our culture and society. The section brings together artistic approaches that have been made possible by digital technologies or reflect on them, as well as speculative approaches and works that address network phenomena and cultures.

Together with the audience, we will demonstrate and discuss how new technologies can support the realization of short film ideas.

NEW AESTHETIC I: KINSHIP
Humans are not alone, but live in a network with plants, animals and technology. How does this understanding change our relationship to the environment and technology?

The films explore how digital technologies are reshaping our identity and social relationships - for example through avatars and cyborgs.

PART 3: VR STATION

In addition, a VR competition will run throughout the festival, showcasing narrative and interactive VR works. They will be accessible to visitors free of charge throughout the festival.
