Adrian Kasnitz reads nicht fisch, the translation of poems by the Slovenian poet Ana Pepelnik. The volume was awarded the Horst Bienek Prize and was on the poetry recommendation list. "In one of these poems, the houses are white and floating. But the speaker has pulled a cap over her eyes and ears. Ana Pepelnik writes verses that resemble crashed idylls or the glimmer of light on a lake full of demons. They pulsate with a longing for a 'primeval history. when everything was just one big heartbeat'. But just as the search for liveliness and euphoria here is always shot through with pain, the songlike tone has something hypnotic about it, which knows trance-like calming just as well as nervousness and fear."
