About the exhibition

This year, the Deutsche Bundesbank in Düsseldorf is once again hosting an art exhibition. The title of the exhibition is "Objects of Desire". On display is an exquisite selection of works by the artist Konrad Klapheck, who died in 2023. In addition to paintings, numerous objects that Klapheck used as models for his famous "machine paintings" will be presented for the first time. The exhibition was realized in collaboration with the Rheinisches Archiv für Künstlernachlässe (RAK) in Bonn and with loans from private collections.

The exhibition offers an insight into Klapheck's early creative phase. On display are personal documents, works from his time at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, collected everyday objects and numerous drawings. Memories and found objects from his childhood, such as typewriters, sewing machines and shower heads, formed the basis of his meticulously constructed, formal art. All of the objects painted by Klapheck were given unmistakable characters through their alienation and titles.
