In summer, the new reading series "Open Pages" transforms Zollverein Park into a place for contemporary literature - for texts that make diversity audible, bring together different voices and pose questions about our times. As part of the BOULEVARD of DREAMS, author and journalist Ciani-Sophia Hoeder's book "Ökorassismus" (Eco-racism) impressively demonstrates why bamboo toothbrushes won't save the world and what lies behind "green Nazis".
Whether a person lives next to a landfill site or in the countryside, indigenous communities are dispossessed in favor of Western consumption or entire groups of people are displaced by "green gentrification" - none of this is a coincidence, behind it all is eco-racism. Progressive global warming also systematically affects people of color, while the white West benefits from a lifestyle that is bringing the world to the brink.
Where once coal was sorted and "picked out", today words are turned, voices are heard and attitudes are examined. The new literature format "Open Pages" opens up perspectives, promotes discourse and celebrates the diversity of literary forms of expression: from novels and spoken word to essayistic and hybrid formats. Between poetry and politics, memory and renewal, belonging and doubt, the invited authors and the audience meet at eye level - in a joint reflection on identity, responsibility and what unites or divides us.
