Öffentliche Führung zur Sonderausstellung „Mit eigener Stimme. 75 Jahre Zentralrat der Juden“

"With our own voice. 75 years of the Central Council of Jews in Germany"

The exhibition at the Städtisches Museum was created in close cooperation with the Central Council. It highlights the work of individual presidents and leaders of the Central Council. At the same time, it illustrates the spectrum of lively culture and social commitment supported by the Central Council. The Central Council's fields of action include sport (cooperation with the Jewish sports association Makkabi), the fight against anti-Semitism, the press, dialog between religions (think tank Schalom Aleikum) and the acceptance of diverse sexual identities (support for the association Keshet Deutschland - Die jüdische LGBTQI*-Community in Deutschland). The Central Council also stands for the music and dance competition "Jewrovision", in which young Jews perform rousing performances. The historical themes of the show range from legal and organizational issues of the founding period ("Wiedergutmachung") to the culture of remembrance after the Shoah and controversies surrounding the politics of remembrance in the 1980s and 1990s, which were associated with R.W. Fassbinder and M. Walser, to the reactions to anti-Semitic content at documenta fifteen. In these contexts, the exhibition outlines how the Central Council stood up for the formation and defense of basic democratic values in central areas of society and acted as an advocate of the Basic Law. The historical part of the exhibition is complemented by a section in which contemporary artists deal with aspects of Jewish life in Germany.

The aim of the project is to pay tribute to the Central Council's services to the Jewish community and at the same time to highlight its importance for the democratic development of German society.

Adults € 5.00; concessions (for pupils, students, trainees, people with disabilities, pensioners and holders of the "Braunschweig Pass") € 2.50; children from 6 - 16 years € 2.00; school classes and children up to 6 years free admission. The Städtisches Museum is fully accessible. The Municipal Museum is a member of the Braunschweig MuseumsCard. It allows free admission once and permanently reduced admission on subsequent visits for one year to the seven largest museums in Braunschweig.
