Orna Porat: Berühmt in Israel! - Vergessen in Köln?

🌍 In 2015, an actress who was a national celebrity died in Israel: Orna Porat. Prime Minister Golda Meir stipulated in her will that the German actress should read from her diaries at her funeral service in the Knesset.

Orna Porat is an honorary citizen of the city of Tel Aviv, alongside Albert Einstein, among others. 77 years earlier, she was confirmed as Irene Klein in St. Luke's Church in Cologne-Porz. She attended drama school in Cologne and had her first engagement at the Schleswig State Theater. In those years, Irene had contacts with the anti-fascist resistance. After the war, she did not want to perform on stages where murderers were among the audience, so she applied to leave the country.

The fascinating life story of Irene, alias Orna, will be the subject of our evening. Her daughter Lital has traveled from Israel especially for the event. Other guests are Monika Möller, Chairwoman of the Cologne/Tel Aviv-Yafo Town Twinning Association, and Dr. Rolf Theobold, pastor at St. Luke's Church.
