Wolfgang Emmerich & Frank Trommler in conversation with Dirk Oschmann

You don't get to experience such a summit meeting of three important literary scholars every day: Frank Trommler, born in Zwönitz in the Ore Mountains in 1949, taught at Harvard, Philadelphia, Princeton and Baltimore and became one of the most influential Germanists in the USA.

Wolfgang Emmerich, born in Chemnitz, fled to West Germany in the 1950s, later became a professor of modern German literature in Bremen and in the early 1980s wrote the "Kleine Literaturgeschichte der DDR", which he later expanded and which is still the generally recognized and valid history of literature today.

Like his two colleagues, Leipzig literary scholar Dirk Oschmann has published books on a wide range of literary periods, topics and authors; he became known beyond the narrower horizon of specialist scholarship with "Der Osten: eine westdeutsche Erfindung. The three experts will discuss the conditions and consequences of literature in the GDR and the academic world then and now from very different perspectives.

Last but not least, they will also discuss Frank Trommler's recently published book "Dorothee oder das Nachleben der alten Welt".
