Poetry Slam-Reihe Salzmannslam (SMS): Queer Slam

In the organizer's words:

Poetry slam is the most modern and probably most entertaining way to disseminate literature orally. In this type of modern poetry competition, in which the poets perform their self-written texts in a time limit of 6 minutes, the audience can democratically evaluate the texts they hear with applause (and decide on the victory or defeat of the competition participants). Poetry slam is becoming increasingly popular all over the world - including in North Hesse. It offers a wide range of opportunities for personal expression for the artists themselves, and the most diverse facets of perception for the audience. At the SMS aka Salzmannslam, up to nine female poets from all over Germany will present their texts.

You are the jury! At the Queer Slam, queer female poetry slammers from all over Germany will delight the Kassel audience. With comedy and depth, somewhere between prose and poetry, the Queer Slam on May 30 will bring an extra dose of glitter to the Sandershaus. At the end, the audience will decide who wins this year's Queer Slam - your applause counts!

Presenter: Joki Keilen, active in the poetry slam scene for 10 years - both as a travelling poet and as a presenter and organizer.

About the presenter: Joki Keilen (born 1996) was already fascinated by literature as a child and began writing herself at an early age. She received her first literary award at the age of 15 before she began to explore the spoken word and the poetry slam format. She has been an active member of the Kassel poetry slam scene since 2014 and travels all over Germany with her texts. In addition to numerous performances, she regularly organizes and moderates the Bauna Slam at the Second Home youth center and the themed reading stage Slam The System, as well as numerous individual events (including the Kassel School Poetry Slam Championships, Kultur-im-Park-Festival Bad Emstal, Lyrica-Festival). Since the end of 2014, she has successfully led workshops in poetry slam for many different age groups. She graduated from the Jacob Grimm School in Kassel in 2015, went on to study political science and philosophy and will complete her degree in social work in 2023. In addition to numerous victories in performances throughout Germany, she became a three-time champion at the Hessian Poetry Slam Championships in June 2016. Since 2017, she has been involved in Germany-wide networking within the poetry slam scene and coordinates the planning of the North Hessian slams. She also supports young poets from North Hesse on their way into the slam scene and organized the Hessian U20 championships in Baunatal with her team in 2022. In addition to her studies and her activities in the poetry slam scene, she works in the assistance service with people with disabilities and is involved in social and political issues.
