How young people currently encounter news reporting
The political media socialization of many young people takes place partly on digital platforms, including TikTok and Instagram. The portrayal of politics is significantly influenced by the platform structures. Which spaces of interpretation with regard to politics are opened up within these structures, and which may remain closed? With the help of a discourse analytical toolbox, we examine an information channel that is particularly important for many young people, namely tagesschau on Instagram. We will then discuss current challenges of political education with regard to digitally mediated news.
