In Irish, "Port Nooˮ means new port. After New York, Berlin was a new port for musician Hannah Permanetter, who, according to Dirk Wagner from the SZ, is "one of the best singer-songwriters
songwriters that Munich has produced", and her solo project.
Port Noo cooks up her sound from one ingredient in particular: the hellish fun she has mixing influences from a wide variety of genres and eras. One moment she's playing acoustic guitar like Joni Mitchell, the next electric guitar like Kim Deal, backing vocals like Aretha Franklin or the Beach Boys, and she's playing synth bass like her hero*.
on a synth bass like her late 90s heroes Portishead, Gomez and Beck.
All of this, mixed with Hannah's melancholy voice, her penchant for pop melodies and her self-critical and time-critical lyrics, nestles warmly and thoughtfully on your shoulder at first, only to tickle a surprised smile on your lips the next moment. In the fall of 2024, after 7 years in which she raised two children, built up a cultural café and only occasionally played in public, Hannah Permanetter takes all the musical lifelines into her own hands.
musical lifelines herself in order to work on new songs for "Port Nooˮ in an improvised home recording studio, completely self-determined and independently.
In her search for like-minded comrades-in-arms, she finds the two actresses
Rebecca Motzel and Paula Leitner, who join her as backing singers. The spark of this electrifying mixture quickly ignites, awakening bassist Barbara Mayer (Lemonbabies) from a musical slumber after 20 years and also infecting drummer-influencer Martina Barakoska, who has recently moved to Berlin.
The first single "Everyone Is Sadˮ will be released on 27.02.2026 on the feminist Hamburg label "Pussy Empire Recordingsˮ, followed by the EP "Standing On The Moonˮ in summer 2026.
Concerts throughout Germany are planned for spring / summer 2026. On 24.03.2026 Port Noo will support the band Peki Momes at Monarch, Berlin. And Hannah Permanetter is picking up on her own story: She founded her first all-girl alternative pop band "Angel's Delight" in Munich back in 1991, at the age of 13, and has been active as a musician ever since. Among others with the indie folk-pop band "Dear Henry Bliss", which
played numerous concerts and festivals in Europe between 2002 and 2013, and even in New York City in 2011, releasing a total of 3 albums.
In 2014, after moving to Berlin, Hannah's solo project "Port Noo" finally followed, alongside
projects such as the songwriter supergroup "The Stewardesses" with, among others, the Hamburg
artist and label owner Catharina Boutari, and the electro-indie artpop band
"Guidebooks" with the Irish producer, songwriter and Grammy Award winner Paul
Pilot.
2017 saw the release of Port Noo's debut album "In The Middle Of
Everything", produced by Paul Pilot, was released on the Berlin indie label "Goldrausch Records", which features renowned musicians such as Tom Osander (Damien Rice), Brian Crosby (BellX1), Ben Castle (Duke Special, Jamie Cullum, Radiohead), Francesco Wilking (Die Höchste Eisenbahn), engineered by Jonas Holle (Milky Chance, Clueso).
