The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is a day of remembrance and action against discrimination and all forms of violence against women.
It was first proclaimed as an international day of remembrance by the United Nations in 1981. It is celebrated every year on November 25 and commemorates three Central American civil rights activists who were murdered in 1960 for their commitment to women's rights.
