RASSISMUSKRITIK IM FILM (Workshop)

In the organizer's words:

"Racist narratives have been with us for a long time - often subtly, often unnoticed. This makes it all the more important to sharpen our own focus: How do explicit, implicit, structural and institutional forms of racism manifest themselves in film? Which recurring stereotypes and prejudices shape the way we see films to this day - and have an impact on the work of filmmakers?

Film history offers a valuable training ground: from exoticism and orientalism in early silent films to colonial imagery and familiar characters from children's classics - much of what we take for granted needs to be critically examined on closer inspection. Together, we will train our eyes, reflect on our own cinematic narratives and develop tools to depict diversity more consciously and fairly in our projects."

Target group

The workshop is aimed at filmmakers of all trades - from directing, screenwriting and producing to acting, camera and editing. Everyone is invited who wants to critically question their own work, develop a more conscious understanding of racist narratives and take away tools for a more diverse representation in film. Previous knowledge is not required, openness for reflection and exchange is the most important basis.
