Summer 1992: Hyperinflation reigns in Peru; unrest and curfews characterize life in the capital Lima. Elena, who comes from a middle-class background, decides to accept a job offer in the USA and emigrate with her daughters Aurora and Lucía. To do so, however, she needs the signature of her ex-husband Carlos, the girls' father. He is a charming dreamer and storyteller who has hardly been seen for a long time. Now, however, he wants to spend some more time with his daughters and uses trips to the beach to gauge their moods. In fact, the impending departure to a foreign country triggers mixed feelings among the girls - the older Aurora in particular has reservations about leaving her friends in Peru.
