It doesn't help: we have to do something about the hardships and suffering of the people. War, poverty, fascism, whatever else. Everyone can do something, everyone. Give something, help where, that kind of thing. Take responsibility. If everything is going down the drain, then at least with dignity, damn axe.

Saša Stanišic was born in Višegrad (Yugoslavia) and has lived in Germany since 1992. His books have been translated into more than 30 languages and have won numerous awards. He lives and works in Hamburg.

Kathrin Dittmer is the director of the Literaturhaus Hannover. She is a jury member of the LiteraTour Nord, the Hölty Prize for Poetry and Chairwoman of the Literature Commission and Literature Prize Jury of the State of Lower Saxony.
