Sascha Ehlert "Palo Santo"
Moderation: Nicolas van Veen
Golo and Hedi, two young creative artists, have decided to spend their lives together. Only a Berlin subway station and a few decades separate them from the legendary film director Billy Wilder.
The three are united not only by Berlin, but also by a life in a Europe on the brink of darkness. While Billy experiences a Germany on the path to National Socialism, Hedi and Golo watch as the promise of freedom in their world is drastically shattered. One thought on waking up, in the shower, on the train: we'd rather leave too early than too late. Their path leads the three of them independently to Los Angeles, the pulsating metropolis between dream and nightmare, which immediately draws them in. - Sascha Ehlert's debut novel tells a transatlantic adventure that transcends the boundaries of time, woven into a web of pop and film quotes. But "Palo Santo" is also: a story of the greatest love in times of the greatest uncertainty (Ullstein 2025).
Sascha Ehlert is the founder of the pop culture magazine "Das Wetter - Magazin für Text & Musik", which he has managed since 2013. In 2014, he co-founded Korbinian Verlag, where he co-edited over 20 books. He writes about music, literature, art and film for magazines and newspapers, including taz, FAS and Die ZEIT.
