Ballet by Goyo Montero
He has choreographed Cinderella and The Nutcracker, explored world literature such as Faust, Don Juan, Romeo and Juliet or The Steppenwolf - Goyo Montero is one of the choreographers of our time who succeeds in retelling great stories through dance. He has already received numerous prestigious awards for his work. With the Staatsballett Hannover, he is now devoting himself to Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's first important ballet score and thus to a classic that has been regarded as the "ballet of ballets" since Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov's St. Petersburg production of 1895: Swan Lake.
The fairy tale of the swan queen Odette, who can only be redeemed from Rothbart's spell through eternal love, continues to inspire new confrontations with its magical imagery and emotional depths. In his first world premiere for the Staatsballett Hannover, Goyo Montero combines his admiration for classical ballet with his own development as a contemporary choreographer and shows us the well-known story from a different perspective. Swan Lake. Rothbart's story draws our attention to a character who has the entire story under control, but whom we hardly know. Breathtaking dance images tell of a king's son who has lost his way, of painful traumas, secret longings and the knowledge that people make the same mistakes over and over again. Goyo Montero's Swan Lake is the fascinatingly abysmal story of a dangerous outsider: the story of Rothbart.
