A serial killer is on the loose in the small town of Woodsborro. He asks his young victims questions about horror movie history. The right answer determines whether you survive. Sidney and her friends take this danger only partially seriously. Instead of being really worried, they constantly quote movies without being asked and have fun for far too long between high school, the video store and parties with how meta their situation is.

When SCREAM was released in 1996, the hype was immense and shaped film productions and personalities for years to come. Actors who were almost all known and liked from different series, cameos by Hollywood stars and a great deal of ironic humor struck a chord with the times. The best thing about it: Wes Craven, director of horror classics such as NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, created a film that works as a satire as well as a genuine horror movie. And screenwriter Kevin Williamson (DAWSON'S CREEK, THE FACULTY) lent as much heart and humor to the characters as he did tongue-in-cheek meta-jokes to the book. An identity-forming film for movie fans.
