A "drama" - for the rebelliously refreshing and profound comedian Senay Duzcu, Turkish stand-up comedian, this means that she is not a typical Turkish woman. This is a drama for her society!
But every attempt to put the conventional stamp on her fails: as a German-Turkish woman, she is "too modern" for the old-fashioned, "too traditional" for the younger generation and "too emancipated" for men as an independent woman.
In her program, she also explains that it was a drama for her family that she did not become a typical Turkish woman. Her parents would have liked her to become a proper housewife and marry a Turkish man. Because she couldn't achieve all of this as a woman, she was always the black sheep of the family. All her experiences brought her extremely funny situations, which she tells and laughs about on stage.
She is an explosive mixture and, as the daughter of a classic migrant worker family, breaks every mold. First as a special needs pupil with dyslexia and then as a scholarship holder for the gifted, Duzcu moved away from home at the age of 19. After stopovers in London and Berkeley/USA, she returned as the only academic in the family with a degree in architecture.
In 2007, Duzcu was awarded the German-Turkish Friendship Prize in the field of culture and has been one of the best comedy migrants in the country for many years.
Her very unusual stories are written by her own real life.
Duzcu makes comedy with depth. In her latest program, she talks about her experiences in everyday life and puts the icing on the cake with liveliness. She not only focuses on "typical migrant topics", but also tackles pretty much all topics that move the ladies and certainly the one or other gentleman of creation.
