Servus! | 75 Years of Munich Campus Memories

In the organizer's words:

Program accompanying the exhibition "Learning and Leisure in "Little America" | Places of American Education and Leisure in Giesing and Harlaching, 1945-1992"

As part of the program accompanying the exhibition Learning and Leisure in "Little America ", cultural historian Dr. Circe Woessner and historian Dr. Karin Pohl present their new book.

In it, they explore the memories, encounters and historical traces of the University of Maryland, Munich Campus (UMMC) - a unique American educational institution that shaped the lives of many students for decades.

More than 75 years later, alumni still remember how special their time at the Munich Campus was. The new, now fourth, book of memories fills in historical gaps, introduces influential teachers and shows how closely the campus was interwoven with the city of Munich.
UMMC was an extraordinary place, created under extraordinary circumstances. Everyone who studied, worked or lived there became part of a community unlike any other.

As the book says: "Pick up this book, grab a cold beverage and a pretzel, and take a trip down memory lane to Munich Campus."

In conversation with Dr. Karin Pohl, Circe Woessner focuses on the connection between the personal memories of the campus community and the historical developments in the south of Munich. Together, they will shed light on how the American presence shaped education, leisure and neighborhood culture in Giesing and Harlaching - and what is still visible today.

The event will be held in English. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.

A morning full of stories, encounters and transatlantic perspectives - a hearty "Servus!" to all those who would like to join us on this journey through time.
