SIRENEN – CHORKONZERT

41 years of Sirenen - 18 women and a piano - powerful voices, witty words, lust meets sounds, from jazz, pop and rock to classical music.

The Sirens were founded in 1983 and are a staple of the Cologne cabaret scene. For a long time, their trademark was musical cabaret: they staged seven of their own revues, some of which featured eight-part singing, dancing and acting, all of which revolved around the major themes of love, lust and frustration. Sometimes the sirens slipped into the role of ancient figures from ancient sagas and legends, sometimes they found their stories in the here and now, for example in the corridor of the employment office, as in the revue "Unvermittelbar". The Sirens performed regularly in the Comedia, but also in the Gürzenich, the Alter Wartesaal and the Cologne Opera.

The days of big revues are now over. The ensemble has reorganized itself after the corona period with new singers and new ideas. The program now includes shorter performances in which the singing and beautiful sound of the 18 voices unfolds in very different songs. The repertoire ranges from jazz, soul, pop and rock to classical music. But the Sirens would not be the Sirens if they "only" sang. The creative vein continues to pulsate, which is why the performances are planned as themed evenings in which suitable songs are interwoven with snippets of literature, pantomime, film or other elements to create a dense experience.

At the heart of the Sirens is artistic director Lisa Glatz. The soprano has led the ensemble for 30 years, holds it together and is largely responsible for its success. In addition to rehearsing, she works on the musical arrangements for four to eight voices and organizes and structures the various activities leading up to the performance. Born in Cologne with Hungarian roots, she is a freelance singer, choir director and singing teacher. In her singing studio "SingBüdchen" www.singbuedchen.de, she offers singing lessons, workshops for choir singers and project choirs.
