Wherever a person wears clothes, there are also folds - the more luxuriant the fabric, the heavier the creasing. Thus, the drapery is an unavoidable theme in figurative sculpture and sculpture in particular, as long as the human being dressed in a manner typical of the time is depicted - from the statues of Greek philosophers and politicians to Christian Madonna and church sculptures, modern portraits of rulers to modern and contemporary art. The sculptor Christa Baumgärtel introduces you to the subject of the robed figure, teaches you to capture the typical drapery in the sculptural representation through precise observation and yet to make the body of the person wearing the robe perceptible underneath.
