Reconstruction in Cologne

Using texts about Böll's homes in the southern part of the city (Teutoburger Strasse, Ubierring, Maternusstrasse, Karolingerring, Kleingedankstrasse), we can trace Cologne's history before and after the war. The loss of the upper middle-class apartment, life in the ruins and the housing situation after the war, the whole harrowing situation during reconstruction are also reflected in the description of his housing situation. In addition to a general overview of his biography, I will present a text passage for each apartment as well as photos. There will also be time and opportunity to talk about your own experiences and memories.

Slow pace with time for personal reflection and discussion. The excursion is suitable for senior citizens and is barrier-free.
