Stummfilmkonzert: Hellenica spielt “The seashell and the clergyman”

In the organizer's words:

Silent film concert: Hellenica plays "The seashell and the clergyman "

Supporting movie: Ballet Mécanique

Growing up in Canada's noise rock and avant-garde scene in the 90s and 00s, multi-instrumentalist Jim Demos aka Hellenica began composing ambient & experimental soundtracks in 2009 using a unique blend of electronic elements and guitars. With influences from post-rock, dark ambient and drone and stage experience as a support act for the Pixies, among others, he dedicates this evening to the soundtrack of two milestones of experimental silent film:
Ballet Mécanique (1924) combines surreal imagery and industrial rhythm to create a hypnotic dance of man and machine.

The Seashell and the Clergyman (1928) is a surrealist film frenzy full of symbolism, desire and repression. The visionary silent film is considered a pioneering work of feminist and experimental cinema.
Both films share an interest in the dissolution of traditional narrative forms and the search for new forms of expression for the psychological, social and aesthetic upheavals of modernity.
With dark soundscapes and atmospheric guitars, Hellenica brings the experimental power of the silent film era into the present and presents us with themes that could not be more topical.
