Hour of Church Music: Turn of the Night

The Advent program "Nachtwende" by the Tübingen chamber choir Vokalkunst opens our eyes to the divine mystery that is born in the darkness - a light that overcomes the deepest night of death, proclaims the morning of peace and heralds the new era Anno Domini.

It all begins with a small spark of hope in the night sky. Isaiah's words accompany it: "And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not comprehended it." The night begins to turn, a new dawn breaks. The Advent compositions give sound and name to this event. They tell of the search for the "morning star", the "key of David" and the "fire of hope". Suddenly the old promise comes true, takes shape and form. Shepherds and angels join in and sing of the "great mystery" of "Christmas", marveling at those words: "true man and true God". The Passion prayer "Alma de Cristo", which reveals the silent connection between the crib and the cross, is superimposed over the Christmas sounds.

Eleven contemporary compositions trace the great mystery of God's incarnation and make the divine spark audible to us humans.
