SHOSTAKOVICH - A LIFE

The carrot and the stick were Shostakovich's companions. On the one hand, the Stalin regime revered the composer as a hero and showered him with medals; on the other, it harassed him and labeled his works as anti-state, as "chaos instead of music". Shostakovich thus created music that contains a whole world, full of tragedy, hatred, mockery, but also joy, irony and passion.

The concert is aimed at secondary school classes.

In addition, a lecture with music about Shostakovich will take place on Thursday, November 6 in cooperation with the Protestant Education Center Hospitalhof Stuttgart and on Monday, November 10 in cooperation with the c-punkt Münsterforum in Freiburg as part of the adult education program. Members of the SWR Symphony Orchestra will play Dmitri Shostakovich's eighth string quartet.
