Ta Ta ER LÜGT – ANDI FISCHER

The painted world occupies a central position in Fischer's oeuvre, which is characterized by the depiction of people, landscapes and animals, with animals playing a significant role. The artist applies his figurations to the canvas with oil crayons. At first glance, this approach appears to be childishly naive, but it quickly reveals itself to be an artistic strategy. This gives the viewer a completely different approach to a fabulous world with ravens, snakes, crocodiles, wolves, lions, dolphins, knights on horseback and swords, airplanes and parachutists. Consequently, painting with oilsticks is usually more of a drawing than a painting, but flatness is nevertheless not uncommon in his works. The design is characterized by an immediate and often refreshingly uncomplicated lightness that allows the viewer direct access to the painting and only gradually reveals the deeper layers.

It can be said that the spontaneity of expression is present in every case, regardless of whether the viewer recognizes childlike fantasy in the pictures or time-honoured, art-historical-mythological heroes such as Heracles or the dragon slayer George. For the artist, it is not the actual figure that is of interest, but the idea of a figure or an animal. In medieval art, this idea could only be developed through vague descriptions of a phenotype and had a decisive influence on the artist's design. The white background, which is emphasized as an important feature of his art in almost all of his paintings, is decisive for a non-three-dimensional staging.

Fischer is indeed a classic storyteller, but he does not present the stories in the form of a storyboard, but rather in the manner of a book cover that summarizes the story in a picture. With his work, Andi Fischer arouses the viewer's interest in the narratives that arise in the context of his works.
