THE BIRDS REPUBLIC

In the organizer's words:

Attention: On Wednesday (20.05.) & Friday (22.05.) there are departures from Cologne and Aachen. When booking, please make sure that you select the correct venue (departure point) for your city.

What it's all about

The Rhenish mining area is a landscape in constant change. Disappearing villages and huge mines that are becoming lakes leave the question: where do we come from and where are we going? THE BIRDS REPUBLIC is a theatrical bus journey directly to the places where lignite mining has changed Europe the most. We visit places where new habitats for plants, animals and people need to be created. A generational project that we will probably not live to see completed.

That's why you have to go in

On board the bus trip, we immerse ourselves in the future together with scientists, activists, resettled people and visionaries. We establish our own "republic" in which we take a bird's eye view of our present. It is an experiment between documentation and vision, ritual and utopia. Together we will design a "city in the clouds" and search for new paths for the region, the Rhineland and our entire planet. If you're in the mood for an extraordinary theater experience at original locations, you've come to the right place.

Pssst!

The journey takes you through one of the largest construction sites in the world. Real encounters with the people on site and artistic visions merge to create a unique experience. THE BIRDS REPUBLIC makes structural change not only a topic, but also a shared experience in the open air, thus following on from the long-standing project series "Images of a Future".

The project takes place in cooperation with the MörgensLab of Theater Aachen.
