Exactly one year ago, I was lucky and honored to host the reunion show of TKDE in Berlin with Golden Rhino.
Now, after 17 long years, The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble is coming back to Leipzig at UT Connewitz.

Not by chance, not "on tour too", but because we're bringing them here.

This is one of those rare nights that you don't put off until "later". TKDE don't play all the time, and when they do, it doesn't happen on the side.
The UT is the right setting for this: concentrated, close, without distractions and with this special, almost solemn dignity.

TKDE is a collective around Jason Köhnen and Gideon Kiers, founded in 2000. The starting point was live reinterpretations of soundtracks (including Metropolis and Nosferatu), from which they developed their own style between dark jazz, doom, ambient, post-rock and experimental electronics.
Collective improvisation, the organic interplay of instruments and the way motifs constantly change in the set are characteristic of the band.

Anyone who experiences the band live quickly realizes that this is not a nostalgia trip, but contemporary music with an enormous pull and a sound that has remained quite unique in this form.
