Tracks criss-cross on the Bosnian-Croatian border: abandoned tanks in the undergrowth, mined hills and destroyed buildings are reminiscent of the Balkan War of the 1990s, which men like Eno and Samir talk about as if it had only just ended. At the same time, refugees from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq cross the same forests, at night, in the snow, in search of a way out of their wars and into Europe. In the village, an empty school building provides shelter, a supermarket becomes a drop-in center, a paddling pool in a meadow gives children a short summer. The everyday life of the population andthe restless coming and going of migration are woventogether to create a picture of this border area. Between exhaustion and help, preservation and escape, what characterizes the landscape becomes visible: Overlapping layers of violence and loss in the simultaneous coexistence of memory and the present.
