THE ROLLING STONES STORY - ROCK ‘N’ ROLL

In the organizer's words:

The Rolling Stones have dominated rock 'n' roll music since the 1960s and were at the forefront of the British invasion of bands that conquered the US in 1964. They were neck and neck with the Beatles in terms of popularity, with the late 60s and early 70s considered by many to be their golden age.

Their live performances are legendary and the Stones' musical legacy is one of the very best. They recorded some of the most phenomenal rock 'n' roll songs of all time - Satisfaction, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Not Fade Away, Honky Tonk Woman, Brown Sugar, Start Me Up... to name but a few.

Now you can relive all these classic hits in The Rolling Stones Story, a high-energy concert celebrating the music of the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band. Let's spend the night together in the company of Mick and the boys and experience a truly authentic Rolling Stones spectacle; complete with a fantastic production, the finest musicians and the world's best Mick Jagger lookalike, Paul Ashworth.

The Rolling Stones Story promises you an unforgettable Jumpin' Jack Flash back in time. It's only rock 'n' roll, but we like it!

Rolling Stones Story - Questions and Answers with Paul Ashworth

1. how did The Rolling Stones Story come about?

I had worked as "Mick" for a number of years, both as a professional double and as a musician with a band. The Rolling Stones Story was an opportunity to move in a slightly different direction. The theatrical show was created as a project with a successful established company and is designed to give the audience a real sense of the Rolling Stones by going through the different eras of the band's career in truly spectacular Stones style. It's a complete show with costume changes, lights and everything else, but also suitable for smaller venues such as regional theaters so we can take the show on tour to as many people and venues as possible. At the end of the day, my job is about playing a role and what better place to do that than a theater?

2. what is your favorite song from the set and why? Or, if it' s too hard to choose, do you have a top 5?

It's very hard to pick a favorite song from any artist, let alone one with such a long and prolific career. I love the darker 70s period of the Stones when they were battling various demons. If I had to pick from the show set, I'd probably go for Jumping Jack Flash or Street Fighting Man. Jumping Jack Flash is simply a masterpiece. The lyrics are random and meaningless, but yet so great in combination with the melody. It's a song that completely transforms when you play it at different tempos and never gets boring. I love Street Fighting Man because of its slightly punk energy and the way it captures the rebellious spirit of the time. Surprisingly, we've seen people salsa dancing to it several times, so it's a very versatile number!

3. what is your favorite thing about being on tour? And what has been your favorite performance on tourso far and why?

I love visiting different cities and theaters as each has its own character, and it's great to be in dressing rooms where so many famous names have performed, from Marlene Dietrich to Lucinda Williams via Norman Wisdom! Traveling all over the country is tiring, but it's good to feel that you've made something of your day and when I hear the traffic report on the radio, all the problems are small. I couldn't possibly pick a favorite gig, but I know that the best gigs happen when the band and the audience are a perfect match - when everyone is having fun and getting into the show - We're very lucky to have had so many gigs like this already, and I hope there will be many more.

4. tell us five things you couldn't live without on the road?

A bottle of wine: in case the bar is closed when we get back to the hotel. My phone: to keep in touch with my family and the world. My slightly extravagant boots and jacket: because I can't wear them with impunity when my wife is there.

The world's largest collection of over-the-counter pills and liquids: I take them very rarely, but it gives me a sense of security. I'm not neurotic, but I just worry about anything that might affect my voice. Well, I actually use nasal spray, ibuprofen and cough syrup before every performance. Maybe I'm a bit neurotic ...

Whisky: If the bar is closed when we get back to the hotel and the others have scraped together most of the wine ... do I have a bit of a problem?

5. do you have a favorite anecdote from the road?

I'm always very embarrassed when someone who thinks we're the real deal and insists on buying us all a drink, and I try to gently lecture them. As I do this, Adrian (our Keith Richards) kicks my ankles harder and harder and hisses, "Shut up, you twat - free drinks!" Once, someone from a theater group came to review us at a festival we were playing before we reviewed the show at their venue. Adrian was in a show-off mood and thought he would jump onto a lower platform to perform a solo closer to the audience. The problem was, it wasn't a platform - it just looked like one in the dark. Shortly after jumping off the main stage, he disappeared up to his armpits in a pile of equipment stored in front of the stage. He managed to climb out and get back on stage a little dazed and only slightly injured. The best part was that the guy from the management company thought it was a deliberate drunken "role appropriate" move! So far anyway...

6. what's your favorite way to unwind after a tour?

After a run of shows, I probably won't get out of my robe on the first day. After that, I have to be a househusband again until the next tour. Cars are my weakness though and I can always find something to do with at least one of the four cars I have if I get bored. I'm like Jay Kay from Jamiroquai... if he was on welfare.

7. what is your plan for the future of The Rolling Stones Story?

I hope we can build on what has already been a great first year and continue to tour and get to every corner of the country. I have a few destinations I've wanted to play for a long time, both here and abroad, but I don't want to mess it up by naming them!

8. what has been the highlight of your career so far?

It's very difficult to pick a particular highlight as I've performed at some fantastic venues in Europe and the UK. As a Grand Prix fan, playing alongside the grid in Monaco was very special, but I'm a real optimist and always think the NEXT show will be the highlight.
