The Sisters of Mercy have been active for over 40 years and even without new music for more than 30 years, they have achieved legendary status. To this day, the band around mastermind Andrew Eldritch is the benchmark when it comes to their very own brand of rock. Now they will be touring Germany extensively this fall.
One part punk, one part psychedelic, one part industrial, one part David Bowie and a few spicy additions from other genres were needed to create a completely new sound in the early 80s. Founded in 1980 in Leeds and named after a Leonard Cohen song, The Sisters of Mercy proved with their special style how music could sound in the post-punk era of the time - and with success. The album "Floodland", released in 1987, brought the band their big breakthrough with tracks such as "Dominion", "Lucretia My Reflection" and of course the ten-minute opus "This Corrosion", which continue to spread their epic sound on dance floors to this day. The 1990 follow-up "Vision Thing" marked a stylistic evolution for the band and was characterized by a heavier, more metal-influenced sound, but retained the band's trademark drum machine sound and lyrical ambiguity.
