An internationally successful band from Liverpool - doesn't that ring a bell? Of course we're talking about The Wombats, who have been bringing their infectious indie rock to the world for over 20 years. Their story began in 2003: singer Matthew Murphy and drummer Dan Haggis were studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, which was founded by Paul McCartney - the co-founder of this other Liverpool band. It was there that they met bassist Tord Øverland-Knudsen, who had just moved to Liverpool from Norway. After their first EPs, they took the indie rock scene of the 2000s by storm in 2007 with their debut album "A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation". The album made it into the charts straight away and the band toured the world for 18 months. Their feel-good indie was danceable, hypnotic and simply likeable. The single "Let's Dance To Joy Division" is now a must at every indie party. And unlike many of their former companions, The Wombats have never lost their momentum: The electronic-tinged "This Modern Glitch" also took several singles into the international top ten in 2011. They then entered the US album charts for the first time with "Glitterbug". This was followed in 2018 by "Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life", a clear return to their pop-rock roots - despite the challenge of now living spread across London, Los Angeles and Oslo and therefore having to find new ways of songwriting and recording. Their first number 1 album "Fix Yourself, Not The World" in 2022 showed that this change was worth it. After a series of successful singles, their sixth studio album "Oh! The Ocean" was released in February 2025, on which The Wombats impressively prove that they are more mature, fresh and experimental than ever after more than two decades of band history - without having lost their original charm. In December, The Wombats have a special Christmas present for old and new fans: the extended version of "Oh! The Ocean" with several new songs will be released on December 5, 2025. This will be celebrated with an extended world tour, with the band also making a stop in Erlangen!
