Description

Lusala was adopted as a child by a wealthy family. When he moves into his first apartment and starts working as a mechanic, a new phase in his life seems to begin. But instead of making carefree plans for the future, the shadows of his childhood catch up with him. Traumatic memories of violence shape his inner life and repeatedly confront him with painful confrontations with the past.

The sensitive storytelling moves between inner struggles and wrestling with the "ghosts" that won't let go of Lusala. In his directorial debut, Mugambi Nthiga delves deep into the emotional layers of an African metropolis. LUSALA tells of patriarchal structures, the tensions of cross-class families, the expectations of masculinity - and the fragility of growing up.
