Amaro Freitas

The Brazilian Amaro Freitas, who grew up in a suburb of Recife, caused a sensation in his youth as a "child prodigy". He began studying at the Conservatório Pernambucano de Música, but had to drop out due to his family's financial problems. Freitas' debut album Sangue Negro (2016) and the follow-up album Rasif (2018) quickly became internationally renowned; Down Beat wrote that he had "developed an approach to the keyboard that is quite simply unique"! In 2022, he gave a solo concert at the Moers Jazz Festival. Since then, he has been a highly esteemed artist in Europe, who also wowed Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie concert hall this year.
